Unleashing WiMAX Capabilities

May 25

Introduction

Sexy Beast film

Before digging deep into the WiMAX technology lets take a step backward and think for few seconds that how do we access internet today. There are basically three different ways through which we can connect to internet: - Broadband, WiFi and Dial-up access. No matter we have variety of ways for connecting to internet; however each brings a set of problems associated with it. Broadband being expensive, WiFi range being too small and dial-up having slow data transfer rate provided an opportunity to investigate and discover alternative solutions.

What if there is a new technology that solved all of these problems? What if this new technology would provide:

  • The high speed of broadband service.
  • Wireless rather than wired access, so it would be a lot less expensive than cable or DSL and much easier to extend to suburban and rural areas.
  • Broad coverage like the cell phone network instead of small WiFi hotspots

This system is actually coming into being right now, and it is called WiMAX. WiMAX is short for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access.

WiMAX, being a broadband wireless standard that enjoys widespread support from both the computer and telecom industries worldwide, making this technology particularly cost-effective. It is engineered to deliver significant business benefits to operators and users in diverse environments (enterprise, consumer, emerging, public service), geographies and demography’s (urban, suburban, rural), both over the short and long terms. WiMAX has the potential to do to broadband Internet access what cell phones have done to phone access. In the same way that many people have given up their “land lines” in favour of cell phones, WiMAX could replace cable and DSL services, providing universal Internet access just about anywhere one goes.

How Will WiMAX Improve Existing Services To Customers?

Wireline operators can use WiMAX to extend the reach of their broadband services to rural, underserved subscriber areas or fill gaps in DSL coverage. New market entrants can also use WiMAX to offer converged voice and broadband services– allowing them to capture new markets (Greenfield) and grow their market share.

Rural areas seeking economic development through the recruitment of industry gain an important tool to attract enterprise customers to more remote areas. Internationally, countries with only modest broadband penetration could achieve rapid broadband penetration by utilizing WiMAX systems.

WiMax can close the gap in areas where traditional broadband has not been economically viable and residents have suffered with inferior Internet connectivity.

Whats In For Telecom Operators?

Carriers are looking for a wireless broadband solution that conforms to the standard’s strict performance criteria and deliver interoperability, which will be the driving force creating economies of scale that will result in lower cost user devices – and a greater ROI for carriers.

Carriers are also looking to partner with WiMAX equipment vendors that have a depth of experience in deploying large scale WiMAX solutions.

Synverse capabilities around WiMAX implementation enables operators to deliver wireless broadband services to a large number of customers over vast geographic areas. Synverse provide professional serives to operators to deliver DSL-like services throughout their service areas, supporting a range of residential services including high speed Internet access, Voice Over IP, streaming video and online gaming with additional applications for enterprise such as Video conferencing and Video surveillance, secured Virtual Private Network (with need for high security).

Synverse therefore enable operators to establish a wireless broadband network now and to evolve with the WiMAX ecosystem to support future applications through its pre-baked Synverse Implementation Methodology (SIM) and Synverse  Enterprise Application Methodology (SEA). Our professional services in core areas of WiMAX includes but not limited to: Technology Consulting, Application Development and Maintenance (ADM) and System Integration thus providing true value to ROI.
